The Charles W. Conn Historical Writing Award...
is presented by the Church of God Historical Commission for the most outstanding published contribution to Church of God history and heritage. Two awards may be granted each International General Assembly period provided quality publications are nominated to the Commission: one award for an article-length publication and one award for a book-length publication.

Purpose
In keeping with the Purpose and Objectives of the Historical Commission, the Award is presented to encourage the writing and publication of books and articles related to the history and heritage of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee).

Criteria
· Must be an original work.
· Must meet established standards of historical writing including a writing style that is consistent with and suitable to the intended audience and accuracy in historical detail.

Definitions
· “Article-length” is considered approximately fifty pages or less and is most often published as part of a periodical or a single chapter within a multi-authored book. This may include a self-contained work that is not more than fifty pages in length.
· “Author” may include co-authors.
· “Book-length” is considered a self-contained text and is usually more than fifty pages.
· “Original work” means that reprints are not eligible. This does not exclude revised editions that contain significant new material, anthologies, or edited works in which the editor invested considerable effort in compiling, editing, and introducing the writings of others.
· “Outstanding” means marked by excellence in quality. Literary style will vary depending on the content and the intended audience.
